Glocalization

“Glocalization” is a term that originated in the late 80's by a Japanese economist referring to the "hybridization" of cultures, religions, languages, technologies, economies, etc. from around the world.  Essentially our planet is shrinking.  The access that we have to information, transportation, human and natural resources has never been greater; consequently the responsibility we have in the use of these resources has also greatly increased because of the heightened consequences or results of how we use or abuse them.

So how do we respond this this ever shrinking world?  What is our responsibility?  How are we affected?  What does it mean to be a good global citizen?

Join us in this conversation at the International Human Rights Expo Wednesday, October 31 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Building A, Atrium.   We will talk about the benefits and drawbacks of, "glocalization"; how our decisions and lifestyles impact those around the world and the process that moves us ego and ethno-centrism to living transcendent lives.

Tim Salmonson is the Executive Director of INVISION GLOBAL NETWORK a non-profit organization that provides service-learning opportunities, resources and training that foster social and environmental responsibility for healthier communities throughout the world. Tim has traveled to close to 30 different countries working with volunteers and community leaders using asset based develop practices improve their quality of life.  Tim also serves in a program called Community Life which engages community members at a local level to actively participate in the health and well-being of their community.
